Ontwerpworkshop ‘Ontwerp de toekomst van Zaanstad in één dag’

Zaanstad bestaat dit jaar 50 jaar. Babel besteedt het hele jaar uitgebreid aandacht aan dit jubileum. We blikken terug en kijken vooruit: naar de stad van toen, nu en in de toekomst. Wat zou de toekomst kunnen brengen en hoe kunnen de gebouwde omgeving, openbare ruimte en het landschap deze toekomst ondersteunen of er misschien wel weerstand tegen bieden?

Babel daagt studenten en young professionals uit om te verbeelden hoe bepaalde functies in onze samenleving zich in de komende jaren zullen ontwikkelen en welke architectonische, stedenbouwkundige en/of landschappelijke vormen hieraan gegeven kunnen worden.

De uitdaging is om ver vooruit te kijken in breed samengestelde werkgroepen. Om de deelnemers optimaal te inspireren, delen drie sprekers in de ochtend hun toekomstvisie. Vervolgens gaan de deelnemers in een informele setting met hen in debat. Daarna verdiepen de deelnemers zich in een van de volgende maatschappelijke thema’s: onderwijs, zorg, zingeving, lokaal bestuur en wonen.

Er wordt 50 jaar teruggekeken naar de functie en het ontwerp van bijvoorbeeld een ziekenhuis, de huidige situatie wordt geanalyseerd, en het team wordt uitgedaagd om een visie te ontwikkelen voor de functie en het ontwerp over 50 jaar. Ze ontvangen input van deskundigen op het betreffende thema en krijgen toegang tot archiefmateriaal.

De resultaten worden gepresenteerd tijdens het Babel Festival op 5 oktober. Tijdens dit festival biedt Babel een divers programma dat aansluit bij onze thema’s en doelstellingen.

Wouter Pocornie
Wouter Pocornie is een architect en stedenbouwkundige. Tijdens zijn studie richtte hij zich voornamelijk op bottom-up strategieën in stedenbouw en op ontwerpbenaderingen beïnvloed door semiotiek in architectuur. Momenteel focust hij zich op grassroots-organisaties en het opbouwen van een lokale beweging met multidisciplinaire creatievelingen in Amsterdam-Zuidoost.

ZUS [Zones Urbaines Sensibles]
ZUS ontwikkelt gevraagd en ongevraagd ontwerp en onderzoek op het gebied van architectuur, stedenbouw en landschapsontwerp. Het bureau draagt bij aan de veranderingen in het stedelijke landschap door haar inzet voor de publieke rol van architectuur. Opgericht in 2001 door Elma van Boxel en Kristian Koreman, bestaat het bureau uit een internationaal, multidisciplinair team van 25 medewerkers, met kantoren in Rotterdam en New York. ZUS heeft talloze nationale en internationale prijzen ontvangen voor hun grensverleggende werk.

Ton Venhoeven
Ton Venhoeven is de oprichter van VenhoevenCS, een innovatief bureau voor duurzame architectuur, stedelijke ontwikkeling en infrastructuur, gericht op het aanpakken van de uitdagingen van onze tijd. Het bureau, opgericht in Amsterdam in 1995, is uitgegroeid tot een gerenommeerde ontwerp- en adviespraktijk, met vijf partners en een internationaal team van architecten, stedenbouwkundigen en technische ingenieurs.

Om 17:00 uur worden de resultaten aan elkaar gepresenteerd, gevolgd door een informele afsluiting met een drankje. 

Praktische informatie

Zaterdag 14 september van 11:00 tot 17:00 uur (inloop vanaf 10.30 uur) in de 2e Verdieping, Affuitenhal 1 op het Hembrugterrein (gebouw Magazijn 14) in Zaandam. Deelname is gratis. Er is een beperkt aantal plaatsen, dus meld je tijdig aan via het aanmeldformulier onderaan deze pagina. De voertaal is Engels.

Let op: De workshop vindt plaats op de 2e verdieping en is minder goed toegankelijk voor rolstoelgebruikers en mensen met beperkte mobiliteit. Als dit voor jou van toepassing is, geef dit dan aan op het aanmeldformulier. We zoeken graag naar een passende oplossing.

Babel Zaans Architecture Platform dedicates a year-long celebration to this milestone, reflecting on the past and looking towards the future: considering the city of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We invite you to be a part of this significant journey, envision the future of Zaanstad, and contribute to the changes in the built environment, public spaces, and landscapes.

Babel challenges students and young professionals to envision how certain societal functions will evolve in the coming years and what architectural, urban planning, and landscape designs can support this evolution. This workshop is about envisioning the future, learning from experts, and gaining insights to shape your understanding of architectural and urban development.

50/50

For example, the past 50 years of a hospital's function and design are reviewed, the current situation is analysed, and the team is challenged to develop a vision for the function and design 50 years into the future. They receive input from experts on the respective theme and gain access to archival material.

The results will be presented during the Babel Festival on October 5th. This festival offers a diverse program that aligns with its themes and objectives.

Wouter Pocornie
Wouter Pocornie is an architect and urbanist from Amsterdam. He currently dedicates most of his work as a community-based professional to spatial strategies and community building in the Southeast borough of Amsterdam. As a researcher, entrepreneur and designer, he prefers a contextual approach and aims to decolonise processes within urban planning.

ZUS [Zones Urbaines Sensibles]
ZUS develops solicited and unsolicited design and research in architecture, urbanism, and landscape design. Through its dedication to architecture's public role, ZUS contributes to the changing urban landscape. Founded in 2001 by Elma van Boxel and Kristian Koreman, the studio consists of an international, 25-strong, multidisciplinary team with offices in Rotterdam and New York. ZUS has received numerous national and international awards for its boundary-crossing work.

Ton Venhoeven
VenhoevenCS is an innovative bureau for sustainable architecture, urban development, and infrastructure, attuned to meeting the challenges of our time. Founded by Ton Venhoeven in Amsterdam in 1995, VenhoevenCS has since grown into a renowned design and consultancy practice with five partners and an international team of architects, urban planners, and technical engineers.

Saturday, September 14, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM (doors open at 10:30 AM) at the 2e Verdieping, Affuitenhal 1 at the Hembrugterrein (Building Magazijn 14) in Zaandam. Participation is free. Limited spots are available, so please register in advance via the registration form at the bottom of this page. The language of instruction is English.

Note: The workshop takes place at the 2e Verdieping and is less accessible for wheelchair users and people with limited mobility. If this applies to you, please indicate this on the registration form. We will look for a suitable solution.
